NaBloPoMo DAY 18:
Oliver Twist hates taking baths, but he loves getting soaked. Let me explain.
Put him in a tub, as I do every so often, and he hates it. He gets all squirmy and tries to claw my arms into pulp as he tries desperately to climb out of the tub. Trust me. It’s not pretty.
When that fails, he goes into “Nervous Nellie” mode and starts shivering as if he’s about to meet his maker.
“Woe is me,” he seems to be crying, “I’m being held prisoner in a tub of soapy water.”
So, baths make him miserable. But it’s a whole other ball of wax when he sees me reaching for the hose to water the plants. Then, all bets are off. He wants in and he’s not afraid to jump through hoops to get a lick of the spray of water coming out of the hose. Given the chance, he’d do this everyday, I kid you not.
Watch the video and see for yourself!
Good news: I’m still posting and I’m still in one piece! How do you like them apples??
And because I know reading a daily blog takes a lot of time, I’m awarding a prize to the one person who has commented on the most posts this month. If there’s a tie, I’ll do a drawing.
Thank you, too, to all of you who keep reading my posts. Clearly you have nothing better to do than to make this dolt a very happy camper! Thank you very much!

You have my undying admiration for making it every single day. Sorry I’ve missed so many of them. I’ll do my best to catch up. Meanwhile, Oliver is a cutie, and I hate baths, too. 😉
Thank you, Jayne. I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! It’s been fun, but admittedly, it’s been a lot of extra work, too.
Always remember Monica, the light at the end of the tunnel could actually be somebody with a lantern walking the other way to bring you more problems!!!
Leave it to you, Robert, to see the clouds in the silver lining. Does this mean I should keep posting everyday even after the month ends?
Henry is identical to my Pixi. She isn’t a fan of having a bath and behaves in the exact same way as Henry. But, go outside and turn on the hose, and she’s all inspired. Huh? Talk about confused! LOL — Loved this 🙂
I meant to write Oliver! Ooops…
Oliver is so funny about water. Sounds like you’re is too. But still, he’s my baby and I love the little guy, so might as well enjoy his crazy antics!
I don’t know what it is about hoses . . .but my dog loved doing exactly what Oliver is doing 🙂
Lol! Dogs really do the darndest things!
Aw, my youngest had the giggles watching Oliver – she’s always begging us to get a rescue. I loved that you called him a nervous Nellie- It is a phrase I enjoy.
So adorable how he’s trying to get as much water as he can from the hose and then shakes like a leaf when it’s bath time. Do you suppose it’s the whole tub and shampoo routine, while the other just looks like fun?
My mum’s dog is much the same but she is a rescue from a storm drain; she smells the rain, a storm and then some. She will not sleep when it rains – completely traumatized.. Poor girl. My mum will sit up with her, all night if she has to, until she settles down and the rain in over.
He really is a Nervous Nellie! I actually end up feeling sorry for him, that he has to endure a bath. But afterwards, he smells so good. I use baby shampoo on him, as recommended by his vet, and I love the scent, which usually lasts a day or two.
Oh, your mum’s poor dog. Such fears must be especially hard for pets, as you can’t explain it away, or help rationalize them out of it. The only time I saw one of them get bent out of shape was once when we had thunder and lightning. That hardly ever happens, though.
He definitely has circus potential. We all have some untapped talent waiting to blossom. I do hope you’re gonna support in living out his full potential by becoming the ringmaster.
I think Henry would make a better ringmaster than me. He’d look good in a suit with tales and a top hat, and I bet he’d love a chance to crack the whip at Oliver. 😉
Well, the plants certainly get watered and I think your Oliver drank some drops. Playful guy. I don’t know why he resists the bath, except that it looks like much more fun than drinking from a bowl. No worries, I won’t tell him he’s cleaner.
Georgette, Oliver seems to love the feel of the spray on his face and he does drink it up, too. He’s quite a character!
Wonder what it is about a garden hose that makes dogs act like that? Dallas, too, loves to “bite” at the spray and “herd” it around the back yard. It’s positively silly, I tell ya! But he doesn’t get to play with it much, as his coat is sooo thick and he takes forever to dry. By the way, I noticed Sir Henry is far too dignified to chase water droplets!!
Henry runs for the hills when he sees me reaching for the hose. It’s too funny. He goes inside the house, and Oliver gets into position for being sprayed. He relishes every second of it. 🙂
When he’s that happy with the hose I wonder why you bother with the tub at all.
If I could figure out how to soap him up in the patio, I certainly would!
Super Video Monica
Dogs are like that we once had a poodle who loved the garden hose but when he went to be clipped he hated the associated bath.
I presume Henry looks on amazed at the antics.
Henry runs into the house when he sees me reaching for the water hose. This is because he has a highly negative reaction to getting wet, akin to the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz who melted under a bucket of water, or Superman when faced with kryptonite.
